Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ Earns Concept Car of the Year Award

Earlier this month, Volkswagen of America, Inc., announced that the I.D. BUZZ concept vehicle has been named the Concept Car of the Year in the annual Popular Mechanics Automotive Excellence Awards. These awards honor the best in automotive design, execution and technology, and are chosen by the magazine's editorial team.

Volkswagen first introduced the I.D. BUZZ at the North American International Auto Show in January 2017, showcasing a throwback idea that presents an ideal mix of retro cool and modern mobility. Measuring 194.6 inches in length, 77.7 inches wide and 77.3 inches tall, the vehicle has the footprint of a medium size passenger car but makes the most of the interior space available.

This new, electric MPV is the second offering in the I.D. range, offering a glimpse into the future of mobility. The Modular Electric Drive Matrix houses the drive system and batteries in the floor, allowing drivers and passengers alike to enjoy the multi-variable seating and interior space.

In a press release, Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North American Region, Volkswagen, stated, “We are thrilled for the I.D. BUZZ to receive the Concept Car of the Year award. This concept represents how Volkswagen is combining our rich history with fresh takes on modern mobility and the reaction to the car has been extraordinary.”

In the same press release, Ezra Dyer, Automotive Editor, Popular Mechanics, was quoted as saying, “For our Concept Car of the Year category, the criteria was pretty simple: 'Which concept car do we most fervently hope actually reaches production?' The appealing thing about the I.D. BUZZ is that it doesn’t come across as a complete flight of fancy. Volkswagen could build an electric Microbus throwback—and we hope it does.”

Our showroom at 5901 Peachtree Boulevard in Atlanta proudly serves drivers from the Duluth, Marietta and Alpharetta areas.
