How Does The Pedestrian Monitoring In The Volkswagen Atlas Work?

Imagine that you're driving down the road in town, talking to your kids, ready to get home and eat your take-out when all of a sudden a child escapes from his Mom and runs right in front of your Atlas. What happens? What do you do? What does the Atlas do? Watch the video below to find out.

There's not much you can do, besides sticking out your arm to "protect" your child (or BBQ) like all Moms do, but your Volkswagen Atlas can do a lot. In fact, when you have Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring, your Atlas is scanning the road in front of you consistently. While you're singing with the radio, talking to your passengers, or thinking about what's going on in your life, the Pedestrian Monitoring system is ensuring that there is a third eye focused on the surrounding area.

If someone does step out in front of you, and you don't apply the brake in time, the Front Assist will visually and audibly warn you. If you are still too close to an accident, the system will apply the brakes automatically. This may save a life and, although you should always focus on the road before you, it is nice to have a backup just in case.
