As we mentioned above, you won't find any major updates when comparing the 2026 VW Atlas to the 2025 VW Atlas – and we think that's a good thing! However, there is one noteworthy change: the addition of an Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror with integrated HomeLink®. This technology allows your vehicle to connect to specific smart-home applications, such as your garage door or lights, so you can control them right from the driver's seat. Additionally, the 2026 iteration earns a slightly higher maximum EPA rating. Otherwise, this midsize three-row SUV carries over.
Both model years are built for power and efficiency, sporting the same turbocharged powertrain. The 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine makes 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, pairing with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth and predictable acceleration. You can choose between front-wheel drive and available 4MOTION all-wheel drive, with the former prioritizing efficiency and the latter emphasizing traction. This three-row SUV seats six or seven, depending on the trim and whether or not you choose a VW Atlas with captain seats or a second-row bench.
With the same output, the VW Atlas towing capacity remains consistent between 2025 and 2026, reaching up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. However, you'll get a slight boost to fuel economy with a 2026 VW Atlas compared to its predecessor. New 2026 models earn up to an EPA-estimated 20/27/23 MPG (City/Highway/Combined);1 2025 VW Atlas MPG topped out at 20/26/22 MPG (City/Highway/Combined).2
