Selecting the right 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan trim starts with pinpointing what matters most to you behind the wheel, including the drivetrain, interior tech and materials, exterior design details, and engine performance. The new Tiguan comes in four distinct editions – S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line Turbo – each one offering its own blend of features, comfort, and capability. Which one fits your priorities and daily routine?
The entry-level VW Tiguan S sets a strong foundation with heated front seats, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, and wireless charging. Step up to the VW Tiguan SE, and you'll find added style and convenience with V-Tex leatherette seating, a power liftgate, and a 10-color ambient lighting system that gives the cabin a more personalized feel. The VW Tiguan SE R-Line Black brings a more distinctive edge with R-Line exterior and interior accents, a power panoramic sunroof, and bold blacked-out styling elements inside and out. At the top, the VW Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo boasts standard AWD, up to 268 horsepower, Varenna leather seating, and a 15-inch touchscreen display with built-in navigation for a more upscale, tech-forward drive.

The 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan trims are as follows:
The 2026 Tiguan carries over the changes of the new third-generation VW Tiguan introduced last model year. The 2025 VW Tiguan boasted a full redesign, both inside and out. The primary update for the latest 2026 variant is the new SEL R-Line Turbo trim, which sits at the top of the lineup, and a higher-output engine exclusive to it. A revised Travel Assist system is also equipped in every model. Otherwise, the Tiguan is largely a carryover model.

The Tiguan is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 201 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. It is standard in the first three trims. The addition of the 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo trim brings a higher-output version of this four-cylinder engine to the table, which achieves 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
No matter which trim option you choose, you will hit the road with stellar performance. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard equipment, but 4MOTION all-wheel drive is available for enhanced stability and traction. The top-tier SEL R-Line Turbo comes with 4MOTION AWD exclusively.

Inside the new Tiguan, there is comfortable and spacious seating for five people and flexible cargo storage options. With the 60/40-split rear seats lowered, you can take advantage of 69.8 cubic feet of cargo room or use the 33.8 cubic feet behind the second row. An under-floor storage compartment is equipped in every trim.
Passenger comfort is prioritized in the latest iteration of the VW Tiguan. This SUV has up to 103.8 cubic feet of passenger volume in models without a sunroof and 100.4 cubic feet in models with a sunroof. The interior measurements are as follows:
The interior is upholstered with premium materials, from cloth to V-Tex leatherette to leather. A 12.9-inch touchscreen comes standard, but you can get a massive 15-inch touchscreen when you opt for the SEL R-Line Turbo configuration.

It arrives with 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, LED headlights and taillights, heated body-color side mirrors, and silver roof rails. Rain-sensing wipers and heated washer nozzles are also included to keep your windshield clear and provide increased visibility in various weather conditions.

Moving up from the base edition, the SE builds on or replaces features while still offering a choice between FWD and 4MOTION AWD. Starting with the exterior, this model has 19-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires and a remote power rear liftgate for easier loading and unloading.
This second-tier trim gives you access to an Atmospheres mood selection feature, which is controlled by the Driving Experience Dial in the cockpit. This technology combines synchronized ambient interior lighting (of which the SE offers 10 options) and audio settings that create whatever ambiance or vibe your mood desires. There are five preset Atmospheres, as well as the ability to make custom combinations.
Other interior amenities include a framed auto-dimming rearview mirror and V-Tex leatherette upholstery. Plus, the driver's seat is upgraded from manual- to power-adjustable with eight-way adjustment and lumbar support.

SEL R-Line Black is the penultimate in the Volkswagen Tiguan trims lineup and also has FWD or 4MOTION AWD. Enhancements include 20-inch R-Line black alloy wheels with all-season tires, black roof rails, black painted mirror caps, and R-Line black exterior accents on the grille, front bumper, side sills, trim, and body-color lower cladding.
A black headliner adorns the cabin, along with an R-Line leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof, and brushed stainless steel pedals. Convenient, advanced technology becomes yours via a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Head-Up Display.

The top-tier SEL R-Line Turbo is the model to choose when you want a compact SUV with some of the most sought-after features and a luxurious feel.
The outside is decked out with 20-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, a hands-free easy easy-open and easy-close remote power rear liftgate, and Poor Weather Lights that improve visibility in inclement weather. Other standout aspects include the VW logo puddle lights on both side mirrors. You will be easy to see on the road due to the integrated front and rear illuminated grille bars and illuminated VW logos.
